Welcome to The World of Hollow Knight Speedrunning.
I will be teaching you how to run Any%. This is a very fun catagory which has been sculpted and perfected over the course of many years. If you are curious as to why I am qualified to teach you, I am a top 1000 runner of the catagory
I will start by giving you an explanation of the route. In the Any% catagory your goal is to collect all 3 dreamers and beat The Hollow Knight, once you have done that the run is complete. There are many ways to do this. There are hundreds if not thousands of routes, however they do all follow the same general progression, they just use and get some different items and different skips.
Necessary Items
To get the Any% ending there are a small amount of items the game actually requires, granted with only those items the run is very difficult so we grab some aditional items
Bellow is the list of key items you obtain in a run in the order that you get them
Vengeful Spirit/Fireball/VS
Mothwing Cloak/Dash
Mantis Claw/Claw
Dream Nail
Lurien
Lumafly Lantern/Lantern
Crystal Heart/ Cdash/ Cheart
Herrah
Monomon
There are a few optional items that you can get as well depending on what route you use. I will list them as well
Desolate Dive
Descending Dark
Nail Upgrades
Aditional Masks/Charm Notches/Vessels
The route
In the start of the run we spawn in a location called kings pass, from there we go left and up to the town of dirtmouth, however we will only go back here once, and that is to buy an item from a shop. But after we get past it we immediately drop down the well into the forgotten crossroads. After entering the crossroads we head left and down untill we get to the room with cornifer. Then we go right until we see the sign for a satag station. then we go up, and into the second transition on the left, then we make our way to false knight, the first "boss" of the run. We basically just smack him around until he throws a tantrum then break the left wall and make our want into ancestral mound. aquiring our first and most important combat ability, the vengeful spirit, or VS for short. we have to kill an elder baldur to leave Amound but that doesnt take too long if you use your movement well, pogos are your literal best friend, use them everywhere, it makes your life so much easier
